It’s easy in these chaotic times to have a lot of thinking about the world “going to hell in a hand-basket.”
Some words of wisdom from the gentle Mr. Fred Rogers of the beloved Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood television show, however, often lift my awareness away from gloom and doom. Mr. Rogers said, ““When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
When I consciously look for helpers, I never fail to feel moved, comforted, inspired to the core by the goodness in humanity. When I focus on love, my feeling level rises in the opposite direction of judgment, which can breed fear and despair.
I realize that helpers are ever-present internally, too. Helpful thoughts, even in the most challenging of times, are always coming through to guide me, lift me, comfort me. I know this from experience; from watching the way my mind works. When I allow my mind to quiet down, a softer feeling enters, facilitating a flow of helping thoughts. A quiet mind and helpful thoughts are companion flyers.
The state of a beautiful feeling and a quiet alertness to helper thoughts are the antidotes to insecurity of any kind.
In her book, “Beyond Beliefs: The Lost Teachings of Sydney Banks,” author Linda Quiring writes that Sydney Banks said, “Love and understanding are the principles by which all things are created here on earth. When you lose this love and understanding YOU are lost!”
Syd continued: “To find love and understanding one must look WITHIN ONESELF. Here lies the treasure of life in abundance.”
Helpers are inside and out because love is everywhere and eternal.

Balancing Our Stories
I’m a natural storyteller, a bard, and I love stories. I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to hold a balance of stories in my heart, stories of happiness and love right alongside stories of pain and suffering.
A Bookbag Named God
Bonus Chapter, Linda’s forthcoming book: LISTEN! Love is BEING A Bookbag Named God “Hey, Sandy-Beach-Del, you must be po-or. Your bookbag is trashed, man,” said the skinny fifth grader with a brush cut and rounded glasses. The spin on my last name, Sandel, was typical of his taunts. My bookbag was a sorry sight, frayed…
Ornament Wisdom
At his first sight of our Christmas tree, my 3-year-old grandson, Alex, said, “Oh, wow!” His gorgeous brown eyes were wide. Mickey Mouse winked on the chest of his grey and white T-shirt. His hand was clapped to his mouth. “It’s beautiful, Grammy!” “Look at this one, Alex,” his 5-year-old brother, Luke, said, as he…
