Loss and Intuition: Strange Bedfellows or Steadfast Companions?
As someone who has spent decades teaching and living the intuitive way of love, I’ve learned that intuition is often most accessible when the mind is calm and quiet. It’s in these moments of stillness that I believe we connect with the purest form of the Divine power of Thought. Yet, life has a way of challenging even our deepest understandings.
When I experienced sudden and tragic loss, I discovered a paradox: my intuition, rather than retreating, became louder and more insistent. But my mind during those times was anything but calm. It was chaotic, panicked, and paralyzed by grief. How could intuition break through when my inner world felt so shattered?
In recent months, I’ve been pushing myself to reconnect with others, venturing out to writers’ conferences, book clubs, and classes. These experiences have offered more than connection—they’ve given me insight into a collective feeling I believe many of us are grappling with: a profound sense of loss.
Loss, of course, can take many forms. In today’s world, it seems woven into the fabric of our lives. People are wrestling with uncertainty about the rise of oligarchic systems in the United States, the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, and seismic shifts in social, cultural, and religious institutions. Beneath these changes lies a shared sense of insecurity—a loss of familiar ground, of certainty, of the way things once were.
This might sound frightening, and perhaps it is. But I’ve come to understand that times of loss and disorientation are also times of opportunity. They are moments when we are most likely to access something far greater than ourselves: the intuitive Mind that springs from the ground of Being—Love.
The Relationship Between Loss and Intuition
Are loss and intuition strange bedfellows, or could they be steadfast companions?
I’ve often heard it said that humans, unlike other animals, tend to run in circles when they’re lost. While other creatures instinctively stop, go still, and use their senses to orient themselves, we humans often flail, spinning in confusion and panic. This is especially true in the immediate aftermath of a loss. Our minds race, trying to make sense of what feels senseless.
But something shifts as we move through the initial shock and adjustment. We slow down. We pause. And in those quieter moments, we often remember to ask. We reach out for guidance from whatever we believe fuels intuitive intelligence—whether that’s the brain, Universal Mind, or God.
The Power of Asking
Asking is a profoundly humble act. It requires us to surrender to “not knowing,” to admit that we don’t have all the answers. And here lies the beauty: in acknowledging our uncertainty, we create space for something new to emerge. Even the smallest crack in the noise of our thoughts can allow intuitive intelligence to slip through.
In my experience, intuition doesn’t hand us the whole solution at once. It offers us one insight at a time, one step at a time, one small glimmer of clarity. And as we follow these breadcrumbs, we find ourselves gently guided through even the most challenging and disorienting experiences. When I feel most lost, I often remind myself that all I have to do is turn on the headlights of LOVE and navigate the next proverbial 50 feet in front of me.
Intuition as a Guiding Light
What if loss isn’t the end of certainty, but the beginning of a deeper trust? What if, in moments when we feel most lost, intuition is waiting to lead us home?
I believe that intuition and loss are not opposites but partners. Loss strips away what is no longer needed, clearing the way for a deeper connection to the Divine Thought system. It invites us to stop, go still, and listen—not just to the world around us, but to the quiet wisdom within.
As I reflect on these truths, I feel a renewed sense of hope. The world may be changing in ways that feel unsettling, but I also see an opportunity for profound growth, both individually and collectively. By turning to our intuitive wisdom, we can navigate these uncertain times with clarity and grace.

Belonging
Christmas presents, gifts of light, can arrive at any time of the year. They can even unwrap in a university classroom in July on a campus shimmering in summer heat. Before the age of 30, I yearned to belong. I didn’t seem to fit anywhere. I was too quiet. Too shy. Too intense. Too emotional.…
