Is there something beyond religion and beyond spirituality that can unite us? The answer is spiritual consciousness.
Religion, with its proscribed rituals, dogmas, “shalts” and “shalt nots” divide us. Spirituality, with its dramatic ranges, from crystals and witchery to prayer ties and kahunas also divide us into believers and non. Both are beautiful but penultimate, next to last.
What if the ultimate unifying dimension, the hidden element in both the creation of religion and spirituality is spiritual consciousness – the simple, yet illuminating awareness that we are an invisible, formless energy in motion, creating — with various degrees of understanding that we are doing so – everything that we experience.
Spiritual consciousness rests on the knowing that what we call “God” or “Love” or “Mind” or “Wisdom” or “Spirit” or “Chi” or “Qi” is formless, invisible, unmeasurable, conscious, intelligent, creative, infinite, and evolving.
Spiritual consciousness is that which unfolds the rose, grows the palm tree; the magic that orchestrates an embryo with exquisite timing and architecture into a person. It moves through us. We are spiritual consciousness in form. We use it to create all manner of form – including religious and spiritual beliefs. The creative agent of spiritual consciousness is THOUGHT, a gift, a formless power, an essence that we have the freedom to use to think whatever we like. What is created is changeable, what is creating is not.
What a world it will be as children grow up, far more aware than I was, that they are making up the world as they go! What will it be like as children recognize that in every moment, they have the faculty and can choose to create happiness, compassion, peace and harmonious efficiency OR suffering, hatred, competitiveness, and disorder?
My adult clients and I are waking up to the reality of spiritual consciousness, to the reality, the inevitable understanding, that we are creators in motion, and it is so beautiful to witness. These awakenings bring spiritual and psychological maturity, which go hand in hand and, in truth, are not separate! I can only imagine how this beautiful unleashing of spiritual magic will affect the future.
It fascinates me to watch audiences respond to this quote by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, the French Jesuit priest and philosopher: “The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tides, gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the word, man will have discovered fire.” Inevitably, there is an indrawn breath as we recognize the truth Chardin speaks.
We think of love as a feeling and, in its purest form, it does create a deep beautiful feeling. In its purest form, love is spiritual consciousness: the awareness that we ARE an unlimited creative power and that we cannot help but use that unlimited power to form our world, either as conscious wise creators or unconscious fools. The moment Chardin speaks of, is upon us.

Evergreen Gifts
On a walk among luminaria, I found evergreen magic. In the city block of my Phoenix neighborhood, on Christmas Eve and Christmas night we observe a tradition of lighting luminaria, votive candles in white sacks, placed along the edges of our sidewalks.
